Well, 4th edition was not a complete earthquake in the ruleset from previuos edition (as happened in D&D with a 3rd edition diametrically changed respect to 2nd one). SJG simply appointed the rules and changes introduced in over 10 years game period (something that was alredy felt with the publication of the 2 compendiums), changes and errors come out from player's games. Anyway it was not a drastic change in my way to play, but I can say the upgrade was worth the change

I like the layout of the books, but I have a question. I've never played GURPS so this is probably gonna sound dumb. How do magic and PSI get used? I've looked in teh chapters, and I get that for skills you roll 3d6 and get under your score, but magic spells and psi powers don't have skills as near as I can tell. |

well, in GURPS each spell or PSI power is considered a skill which you have to master in order to get the proper effects.... since there are not CLASS each PC can learn to manage these powers but he still need the proper advantages (magical aptitude for spell) in order to do so

Being too lazy to find out myself, I figured I'd ask here... For things like Psi powers, is there still: skill level which determines how good you are with it and power level which determines how strong the power is or did they change that mechanic to a single thing? |

Hmm, now I'm curious. I kind of liked the old way. Made it possible to be really good at a power, but have it have little strength, or a really strong power, but not much ability to control it. That's not that easy to do in most games I think. |
