Re: How multiclassing works? (link)

Guess I have the same feeling about multiclassing. Especially the example they gave of taking a level of barbarian.

How do you explain that .... go feral for a few years ?

But i guess the cartoon is aluding to something, that if you want to take a new class you should be role playing towards that end.

very nice.

It also applies to pretty much any class based system tho. Unless you roleplay it, the mechanics will be kind of odd that way.

Dunno. Is CP2020 class-based? I argue that it is, though it's not level-based. No multi-classing there, no sir.

Re: How multiclassing works? (link)

I try to combat this by imposing a game time penalty for characters that multiclass. After adding the penalty (it's only a meager two months) I find my players are sticking to one class. When they get enough experience to level, and they are in the middle of a dungeon/adventure, they don't want to wait to level so they just take another level of their current class. So far the results are positive... only time will tell

I guess one should ask the player why he's multiclassing, whenever i feel that something is not wholy convincing i just ask the player "why?" that usually discourages them from most crazy plans they have.

The comic is absolutely hilarious but I also know that type of player... If you want the class then play it out BEFORE you level up is the normal rule our DM takes.

Like always it depends on the DM, make sense with it or suffer from it.

Re: How multiclassing works? (link)

There are some classes though that taking levels like that would be possible. Like Sorcerer. Since a sorcerer's power (from my understanding) is mostly instinctual, it would be very possible for those powers to manifest suddenly, allowing for little or no pre-level up RPing.
