d20 Companies Dying Off

Are any d20 companies dying off?

Can you name some that have closed their doors?

It seems like many are partnering faster and faster? Does this mean they are trying to increase profit, or trying to keep form shutting down completely?

Re: d20 Companies Dying Off

Imho there will be a new generation for the major systems (like D&D, SW, etc.) soon.

With the glut of "companies" that were producing d20 stuff, I'm sure several are gone. I can't name any, it's just a hunch.

I know that some have merged, which is probably the only way they could stay in business.

I kinda hope they all die off.

I'm getting sick of everything becoming d20. D&D? ok. Star Wars? sure. Besm? going a bit too far. Abberant? For the love of God, no. Call of Cthulhu? Somebody really needs to kill the creators of this one, it's blasphemous to the elder gods.

Re: d20 Companies Dying Off

i don't get the hate people have at d20, i mean it's not like somebody actually stops to do the system they already have to do them in d20.
All the systems that are coming up are already half-dead or non-existent for ages, and just because somebody buys the system and moves it to D20 everybody gets pissed, well guess what, if it was so good, why did it die off?
I'm not saying "hurry and convert everything to d20" don't get me wrong, but don't bitch about it if somebody does it. How about trying to support the games you enjoy WHILE they're still in print, not after they break down.
And remember ultimately you can play the system you love in the manner that you love, nobody makes you play this or that version, in RPG each is free to do as he pleases.
So please think about it before starting to scream about one or another system going to d20.
You don't like it, don't buy it, companies don't listen to bitching, what they want is sales.

With so much publication in the d20 systems, it's normal that a lot of the smaller publishers died or join together.. It's just the normal competition. After a few years only the bigger ones will survive...

This is true and to be expected. Was sad to see Avalanche go tho.. nice covers and great modules that I would have been interested in as a historic boardgamer, moving to a more historic based rpg would be cool.

Re: d20 Companies Dying Off

I think this is the unfortunate thing of the market being flooded with D20 books coming from all over the place, the better producers of books will find sales suffer and eventually these companies will die off.
Avalanche and Privateer Press are really the only 2 companies who make books that I really want to buy for D20. The news that Avalanche are not going to be producing that many books is very bad news as far as I am concerned.
