Let me tall y'all about Benny

Benny was your normal blues musician who owned a bar in downtown Chicago. This bar served some of the best BBQ around, completely beating out most other places in the midwest (that's an accomplishment). There was just one problem with Benny. He was 150 years old and has owned the same bar most of that time. Ya see, Benny, poor ol' Benny, was a Brujah, one of the undead horrors others know as vampire.

Now, the year was 2003. Chicago had just survived a massive sabbat attack, in fact it is the only North American city that hadn't fallen to the sabbat. The Camerilla was in shambles and a militaristic coup had removed the Ventrue and Toreador from power completely, replacing it with their own version of the Camerilla. This NeoCamerilla named a Gangrel Prince, along with placing several other members of the more fighting types in key power positions.

Benny survived the attack, only to find that it was coming... Gehenna was coming... soon.

After the red star shone up in that sky, Benny's bar was closed down and scheduled for demolitions. The pesky ventrue had come back to the city and was taking out their rage on the good, upstanding citizens.

After the bar was closed, Benny was sent on a mission by the Prince. Along with some other fellows, he found a coffin that was filled with concrete. Holes were drilled, and tests were done... It was a 5th generation catiff. The lowest generation vampire in the city was a 2000 year old 5th generation catiff, and when he woke he frenzied....

Poor Benny never saw it coming. The catiff poped claws, and with the use of celerity AND potence, poor Benny caught the brunt of the aggravated damage... all 15 levels of it...

Needless to say, Benny didn't survive. Sadly, the story of Benny the Brujah Blues Musician ended on that night. No more would his simple melodies bring tears and joy to mortals or supernaturals...

I only played him for about 1 1/2 months, but Benny was one of my favorite characters. Not because he was powerful, and he was, not because he almost became primogen, but because Benny, the vampiric blues man, had style.

The best characters do have style. My fave was Torlin Gemdi. An old 2nd Ed. AD&D thief. His first adventure set the whole tone for him. They come to a large locked metal door, he picks the lock without actually touching anything aside from the inside of the lock, steps back and lets one of the manly fighters open it. Then grins as said fighter gets lightning bolted once he touches the door handles. As Torlin is a 'collector of fine antiquities', later on he is told to 'collect' this big gold statue that just *screams* "TRAP!". He does so, making a poison saving throw. He lugs the statue back to the party and starts yelling about how "This thing weighs a ton! Someone take it!" and grins some more as yet another burly fighter-type takes it and fails said save, breaking out in large green splotches. Ahh... I loved Torlin. ^_^
