Anarchy Online (free)

Is anyone playing the now-free* Anarchy Online? I've played it a little and liked it so far. Massive online games offer some good chances to computer based roleplaying without gm, though I must admit that most players seem to name their characters idiotically and just run around killing things ^^. But then, I wouldn't play regular rpg with guys ripped from street and made to play.

So, I claim it's possible to roleplay using AO, and it offers a different aspects compared to normal tabletop roleplaying (play whenever you want, no real need of gm) and computer roleplaying games (you can make up the grand plot yourself). Of course, some bad things about it too, namely, there isn't a gm and you have to make up the grand plot yourself ^^. All in all, I think massive online games can have a real niche between rp:s, irc- or im-based playing and computer rpgs, if you find or know decent players, of course (but those are needed in all roleplaying, except solo).

Try it if you want. I'm playing on server 1 (Atlantean or whatever it was).
