The best, worst and unknown games in Hungary.

Post sth about your games market.
What do you like? What are your bestsellers?
Does d20 "reign" in Hungary? Is there a game, what only survived in your country? What is a market mistake? The worst crap in bookstores?
And so on.

Tell us sth about characteristic of Hungarian RPG players, communites, cons and such things.

Small market, big problems and big scandals.

Only it? No local cons? No fan- and prozins? No games related gadgets?

Long story, but we will talk about it, when I have time to write a good summary.

All right, I will read the short stories too, if you prefer.
I'm just curious about your rpg beginnings - in Hungary.

Re: The best, worst and unknown games in Hungary.

beginnings: That started with two small booklets for a game: Harc és Varázslat. It came a bit early, without advertisements, printed in low numbers and had problems with distribution too. As another beginign we had some unauthorized translations for AD&D. When some company tried to buy a licence for an official translation they haven't got it, so they decided to make their own game. Since they had their setting, with novels already published for it, and some talented people M.A.G.U.S. is born, and become one of the most successful games in Hungary. But when a team has no strong common goal, it can fall appart, and we seen it. The new editions, and CODEX (made by one of the dveleopers for MAGUS) haven't repeated the success. The new editions because of Quality, CODEX because lack of novels and financial support. There are translations, and some attempts to create games but that is less important.

Thankee. Very accurate info. May you post some dates?
And one more question: do you have many published novels based/related to rpg?
IMHO, there are not very popular in many countries, because players think that its the next way to trick them (or their wallets).

Re: The best, worst and unknown games in Hungary.

The novels are popular, and they are needed to sell some games. It is hard to find dates for everything

What is more popular? Novels or prozins? If there are any prozins, and I mean published versions, to buy in bookstores. (Its important for me, 'cos a books are harder to publish (obvious, I know) than e-books, and that could show scope of rpg market.) Thankee for all infos.
