Whats its major selling point? Well, unless I am mistaken, its the only official RPG in print right now set in the Star Wars universe we all love so much! Who wouldnt want to be a space pirate, or a bounty hunter like Boba Fett? Cheers!

Imho the major selling point is elsewhere. Star Wars is a Huge Universe, and you can play a fantasy game on Endor, a classic cyberpunk style game on some planet, something like Shadowrun on the next. TheElf said it is an important strenght for the setting, and I can do nothing but agree about it. d20 system is one of the most popular systems, and while it isn't fully universal, it can model the Star Wars universe with most of these facets included.

Personally I dont see any particular attraction in using SWd20 to run a fantasy or a cyberpunk game. I'd much rather use a fantasy or cyberpunk system for that. Playing a fantasy game in SWd20 is kind of like using the Cyberpunk 2020 rules to play a tribe of aborigines from Papua New guinea. But each to their own, I guess. Cheers!

Surely you can't be suggesting that people think of THOSE movies when you say "Star Wars". Cheers!

Interesting that what you consider to be "huge parts" of the Star Wars setting are in fact far and away the least well known official movies in that setting, and in my opinion, clearly would have been of virtually no interest at all if released on their own. Suggesting, as you appear to be, that the target demographic of the Star Wars RPG is people who prefer those two movies over the six 'REAL' Star Wars movies is rather mind-boggling. Cheers!

UncleDave: Who said anything about preference, choice between the stuff, etc? Only you. One who wants to play in Star Wars universe, wants to roleplay his characters and not just revisit the story the same way. To have any kind of freedom, you don't just copy the movies, but try to represent the world with all the options. If you run the old trilogy, and people visit Endor, who can stop the party from asking some questions about the history of ewoks, about their thoughts about tech, etc? to know them, and to be ready for side adventures started, you should be able to model the universe. |
