Hírnév szint: 5 ![]() | GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars, now open Australia Downport, Terra, Terra/Solomani Rim, July 4th, 2170 AD Skyscrapers pierced the horizon surrounding the downport, some buildings almost crowding to Uluru's base despite the protests of some of the locals. Although not Terra's busiest commercial starport, "Oz Down", as it was known, still saw a ship movement roughly every hour, around the clock, year-round. The starport itself was mostly underground, to escape the Australian Outback's stifling heat, exacerbated even further by the past centuries of global warming, which only in the past decade showed signs of slowing down. Only the control towers, ship hangars and perimeter security installations pierced the hard baked surface. Underground, in relative comfort, the commercial heart of the port throbbed, with its own rhythm, seperate from the surrounding city of Alice Springs and shared only with the system's other commercial downports, reaching a fevered pitch when the surrounding city of Alice Springs eased off in the small hours of the morning. One of the chambers of that heart was the job market, existing to match mainly skilled technicians, managers, retired military personnel, itinerant ship crewman, and the like, with employment. In the past few months, such had been hard to come by, which resulted in each and every job posted being greedily scanned at any available terminal - the more mundane jobs usually didn't make it that far, being tacked up on a noticeboard somewhere. As such, the short advertisement posted by Tanglefoot Recruiting, BV, drew more of a response than would have been expected merely twelve months previously. Quoth the ad: "Our client is seeking crew and officers for some medium-range missions to rimward. A potential ship's officer will possess at least five years' experience as starship crew, with preferably at least two of these in a leadership or management position. Naval, or actual ship to ship combat, experience will not hurt your case. Potential crew will be physically and mentally fit, able to integrate into a team environment, and either experienced or quick studies. Specialist experience in any ship department is preferable but not necessary, as training will be provided to qualified successful applicants. Pay and benefits are to be negotiated, commensurate with your skills, experience, qualifications, and role you seek to fill. For further information, contact Max Walker at Tanglefoot Recruiting, ph 61-8-2412-0918, or contact our office in person in Australia Down, during local business hours." ----- Now that the in-character introduction is out of the way, let's get started. I'm looking for 2-4 players to play in an exploration-oriented GURPS Traveller game set during the Interstellar Wars period. Knowledge of neither setting nor system is necessary - I find bringing new players up to speed is half the fun of GMing. However, being able to consistently and coherently type English, not some dumbass internet bastardisation thereof, is necessary. I'm in Australia (GMT+10) and looking to run during my day sometime, excepting Tuesday and Wednesday. Since it may not be clear, the mechanics will be GURPS 4th Edition.

So if you are interested, post your times and days you're available (times relative to GMT), and whether you have any specific preference shipboard. Skipper, XO, and second officer I'll retain as NPCs. Other than the big three, following positions are available for PCs to fill: Command section - third and fourth officer. The command section officers include the command pilot, navigator, sensor officer and comm officer. They report to the XO. Engineering - 1 chief engineer, 1 second engineer, chief's aide. Unsurprisingly, these guys keep the ship going as a ship. The rest of department reports to the chief engineer, who reports to the XO. Flight - 4 officers, 1 petty officer, 4 deckhands. These guys fly the ship and its subsidiary craft, such as fuel skimmers. The helmsman heads up the Flight section and reports to the XO. Ship's Troops - 1 sergeant, up to 4 grunts. Paramilitary security - on naval vessels, jarheads. The ship's troops report to the skipper. Maintenance - 1 petty officer, 2 deckhands (Maintenance works closely with Engineering). Generalised maintenance and damage control. Maintenance is actually a subsection of engineering, and thus the petty officer in charge reports to the chief engineer. Medical - 1 doctor, 1 nurse. While engineering patches up the machinery, these guys patch up the crew. The doctor reports to the XO. General Services - 2 deckhands. These guys provide basic services to the crew, such as disbursing the grog locker, cooking, etc. They report to the XO. Specialists - 4 officers, 4 petty officers, 12 deckhands (computer, sensors, scientific specialties). The reason for this ship's mission - these guys actually do the scientific work that has the crew onboard. The specialists report first to their corresponding officer (sensors, computing, etc), who then reports to the department head and thence to the XO.

Upon further cogitation, point limits are as follows: 150 points 45 points of disads, with racial template disads counted.

I'm GMT-5 (On DST, so its UTC-4 at the moment.) I'm usually available from 20:00 GMT-5 to 06:00 GMT-5 I don't know the system all that much Id like to play someone who works for a living (enlisted, NCO likely). Ya know, gets all the blame, none of the credit. engineering would be preferred. Last edited by sdamon; 09-01-2007 at 03:50 PM. Reason: one key off! |

Sadmon appears to not have done anything towards char creation, so he's out for the moment. Am still open and recruiting.

Hi there! I would love to participate, though I know nothing about traveller, except for what I gleamed from an old game called megatraveller 1 I downloaded another day. I may try to create any kind of character you need now (whatever still needs filling in), though I would first like to know what days we will be meeting so I know I can participate. I am at GMT -3, and I am free at weekend nights, including sunday nights (would be monday morning for you). Other times can be negotiated. |

Hey, play some one who is geared towards more shiply duties then me. I'm essentially a glorified ground pounder with a unique set of problems <Adrenaline addict with Killjoy> But then again, I wanted to challenge my self... If you catch me on the channel, just give me a yelp, I can actually help you make a character because I have the Character generation program!
