Thief Series

Thief: Is the story of Garrett, a master thief who makes his money robbing from the rich and giving to himself. As a child, Garrett was just another street urchin, begging for scraps and wondering if each day would be his last. All that changed when he noticed a mysterious figure wandering the street one night, virtually unnoticed by everyone he passed by. After a failed pickpocketing attempt, Garrett learned that the man was a "Keeper," a member of a mysterious order charged with maintaining the balance of life. He was adopted into their order as an initiate, and learned their mysterious ways, including the art of vanishing into the shadows. Garrett soon grew wary of the Keepers, however; life on the streets had made him more than a little cynical, and their cloistered way just wasn't his style. So he took off, returning to the only life he truly knew -- that as a scoundrel and thief. But Garrett's time with the Keepers had been well spent, and his unique "education" proves invaluable in his chosen profession.

This game series has everything a thief playing enthusiast would love.. Stealth, Story, Loot and can be played with 0 kills. in and out before anyone is the wiser.

What i like about it especially is that if you want to have the mindset of "kill 'em all, and let god sort them out" you will be very very dead. and quickly. You need to use the skills of a thief to get in and out of a heavily guarded thieves guild, or armoury. great experience for a good thief

It's probably my most favourite "FPS/Stealth" game out there set in medieval times dealiing with rich socialites, Cults, and the undead.

Re: Thief Series

Another thing to add, it is really fun to try to get through the game with no knockouts, kills or being seen from start to finish. quite the challenge, and usually what a thief is after anyways

I heard about it, but for traditional FPS where you have to kill my favorites are No One Lives Forever and No One Lives Forever 2

Re: Thief Series

I'm a big fan of the Thief series as well, though I just finished "Deadly Shadows", and was a little disappointed by the storyline compared to the first two. I particularly loved levels like Constantine's Manor, which had some really strange architecture, or Life of the Party from Thief 2 which had you travelling the city by rooftop.

Also, it has the distinction of having some areas that unnerved me enough to have to shelve the game for awhile. First time I encountered a Hammerhaunt in the first game with the lights off and playing the sound through headphones, I just about freaked out.

More great games, though you can play through most of it in a non-lethal/stealth fashion. The Tricycle scene was a classic in the 2nd game.

I have yet to play Deadly Shadows since my video card is a little out of date but yes i've heard that as well that it isn't as involved story wise as the first two.

Re: Thief Series

Like many other scenes I think most of the UT fans don't realy know what a good FPS is But lets see a real fps without too much stealth as well: Americas Army series is nice and free, yet UT fans avoid it because it is too realistic for them.

I don't want to spoil you then, but the factions (Hammers, Pagans, Keepers) were not as interesting, the story was a little simplistic for what the series seemed to be pushing towards, and I'm *still* scratching my head over the ending (though the last scene was a great piece of symmetry for those who've been playing since the beginning). It's still a very good game, but quite obviously not done by the original team from the first two.

And yeah, after playing the 1st two levels, I went out and upgraded to a new 256MB NVidia card. Given the low graphics of the first two the requirements for this one made my head spin.
