The first problem with it is simple: can you memorise (learn) the same thing twice? I don't speak about memorise, cast, forget, memorise again... But I speak about "hey, I have two fireballs a day" The system they tried to "copy" or "implement" isn't that D&D friendly as you see. |

The main problem is that it is utterly inflexible. There are much less opportunities for a spellcaster to shine (and to be more than just a blaster with a crossbow) if he doesn't have to know of all the situations to be expected on the morning before. Another problem is that it's kind of difficult to justify. (Why not just use raw magical energy to power spells that are entirely cast when needed?) A spell point (mana) system would work better on both counts. Thankfully Unearthed Arcana offers one.
