| Gurps WoD Material and a Bit of History
I recently purchased the old Gurps Vampire book. Now to be honest I knew only that it was done under license 10 years ago and not much else. As I looked through the book it struck me how similiar the powers were structured cost-wise to the Vampire duplicates. So I went searching for some indication that this was some clause in the contract. What I found on usenet was the reason the whole deal went sour. Here is Steve Jackson's post to rec.games.frp about the delay on the Gurps Mage book. I can't find Steve Wieck's reply but I did find a repost of CJ Carella's view on the whole thing. And here I always told myself that the petty bickering was mostly the domain of the fans of RPGs. Looks like I was wrong. I'll also note that the original deal seems to have been signed by Rein*Hagen and he indeed was dictating that some if not all WW material remain in original form in the GURPS books. Anyway that's a quick trip down history lane and in my opinion a good look at one of the major companies in the industry and the skeletons they'd maybe rather we not see. Especially since I can't find Wieck reply anywhere and that typically only happens if someone makes an effort to have it removed from usenet. |

There are different interface for editing to choose from for different browsers, so they tend to support most browsers. But it is hard with Gecko based "the standard based real browsers" what can display the same page in many different ways depending on versions. Maybe they think the standard is: Display stuff as our current version does it. Stability and making sure what yo do in one version works with the next one is more important than saying "we support this from the standard" or "that browser doesn't display stuff welll with out mng plugin, so its png support is bugged because it displays the PNGs as they looked in Photoshop" and I seen strange bugs under Mozilla so who knows why you had this problem. Btw. Firefox tends to have a problem with cookies for a whole domain and not a subdomain (say forum.enerla.net and www.enerla.net shares the same cookie) and it is mandatory in standards. Supporting even nonstandard tags, etc. is done by all browsers, etc. This is why I don't use mozilla anymore. But have both IE engine based and Opera based browsers. |

For tech stuff: I heard the wysiwyg editor works with mozilla at least under windows. A small surprise for me, since I tought it is for IE only. (and it is possible under IE only). For WOD: Wod is a mainstream game: Above avarage with decent background and plenty of books since mainstream doesn't need real quality of system, etc. can accept a lot of compromises in the setting. When wod people accept the existence of bugs and these reasons, they start accepting other games as well, but I doubt if they would move GUPRS wod way |
