Castle Perilous

Author: John DeChancie

Imagine turning around in your shower and encountering a doorway to another world. Or getting lost on your way to a job interview and ending up in a castle hallway. These are just some of the ways into Castle Perilous from our world.

DeChancie's creation of a Castle bound by powerful magic with 144,000 stable aspects into other worlds, demensions and creations keeps you reading all the way through the end of the book. A place where everyone has magic... eventually. Even if it's not the talent you would want.

One problem: there's Someone who wants to take over the heart of the castle and release the ancient evil that resides there, entombed for centuries.

The book is still available online and through various second-hand shops. Published in 1988, it's an interesting look at how a world might be where everyone is a Guest on an Extended Vacation in a magic castle where you might find a wild aspect with man-eating plants or friendly dinosaurs.

A good, quick read.

PS: look for another review coming shortly for it's stand-alone sequel Castle For Rent.

Nice review NinjaKitten, it even makes me want to find that book and read it. The ironic parts is I hardly ever read fantasy books; 99 percent of what I read tends to be eithr sci-fi or technical books. Thanks for inspiring me to expand my reading experience

Thanks Shriek!! I'm hoping that's what will happen in this part of the forums.

Re: Castle Perilous

Castle Perilous and Castle for Rent were some great books.

I should sound off on some David Drake books sometime soon.
