A question I would like to ask also regarding the D20 game is that how close is it to the spirit of the computer game version? Yeah, it's probably a silly question since the book version tends to be much better than in other entertainment mediums

Depends, I think in most cases the original medium is better, but you have many more movie adaptations of books than vica versa. But you think the doom novels were much better than the game?

Heh, you have me in conudrum. I liked the doom games but honestly I don't know if the Doom novels sucked or not since I didn't read them

I think many many people would say the same, and the rest isn't happy enough to recommend them to you

Re: Warcraft d20

The game is accually pretty accurate to the books. As long as you pick up a copy of Manual of Monsters, your world is a lot more realistic. One thing i've noticed, the majority of the hero races are all around one LA higher than normal. This really doesn't spoil anything as it's balanced with itself, just keep it in mind when comparing it to other worlds & settings. Also, races differ vastly between the Setting book and Alliance and Horde Compendium. Overall ? I'd say it's a good setting. It's best if you've played the games and/or read the books to get a true feel for the setting. Other than that the only book you really NEED is the Manual of Monsters (as well as the Warcraft d20 book itself).

Best points about the system ? It's already an established, with popularity beyond just the pen and paper gamer. Glorified character races (playing an orc or a goblin is just as gratifiying as playing a human or night elf). In need of maps ? just look at some of the fansites for World of Warcraft, the whole world is painstakingly detailed.

Bad points: weak integration with other campaign settings, limited list of warcraft unique equipment, and having to buy them at amazon (as all the hobby shops around here only carried mainstream books and settings).

Re: Warcraft d20

PS: The RPG doesn't go out of the way to spoil any plotlines that may or may not exist in books, it relys on the DM/GM to determine where the world is when they play.

Re: Warcraft d20

Warcraft isn't my favorite as a PC game, yet I think the RPG adaptation can be good, and a lot of people would like to play the stories of some campaigns in RPG. I think ordering it online doesn't stop most people. Why I like this setting? Easy reasons: many friends like Warcraft 3, and if I can make a good campaign for it, with good story (one I can enjoy) then we can have a good compromise. It is Warcaft 3 and it isn't too bad. Sad, I don't see an option to create a cooperative multiplayer campaign.

jackbean is infamous around these parts
Re: Warcraft d20

Warcraft D20 has a number of modules out for it, and these probably handle the WC 3 storyline a bit, or just the Warcraft Storyline entirely.
As It is , the Main book is your typical D20 fantasy setting
