Some nice RPGs I played and liked that aren´t mainstream (all kinds, even the types that I´m sure some of you wouldn´t call a REAL RPG): Divine Divinity Silver (not a real RPG) Arx Fatalis (for those who played - and liked - the old Ultima Underworld) Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (bad graphics, nice little system) Kult: Heretic Kingdoms (nice one, could be a little longer) I really like to play different CRPGs, so just suggest some good ones here, please. |

Divine Divinity - Medieval Baldur´s Gate like RPG, with only a single char. ome people would say Diablo like, but it has quets and history and it´s not simply a click fest. It have a world that gets going without your actions (like ultima VII). Silver - Fantasy, with a simplyfied character development system (that´s too simple by my standarts) and Zelda like combat system. Arx Fatalis - 1st person action/adventure RPG dungeon crawl. Medieval. Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura - Made by Troika Games, a company started by the 3 of the people who made Fallout, it´s steampunk in the 19th century. It´s system is Fallout like. Kult: Heretic Kingdoms - Is set in a fantasy world where God is dead and you play as an Inquisitor. It starts a little slow but gets better when you see how the way you can shape the history. Non random quests, so little replayability, but you can choose how to solve many quests and have to deal with the consequences latter. |

Arcanum: I bought it with some gift certificates. I got it in a cheap package common to old games, and checked if there are patches and started playing, and soon, I decided I won't play with it. Why? As a windows game it should handle if another window gets focus (say notifications, etc) and you go back to the game. Arcanum failed at this and same problem happened with their newer games. It had some bugs, so the playability value, the graphics and animation value for it went down. A game with serios bugs left unpatched for years isn't the best for me, and with 2 such problematic titles, and no positive experience, I doubt if I will have Troika made games again.

some more for you: Nox - strange concept, nice game. you play a 20th century guy in a medieval fantasy world. Revenant - great concept, great game. You play a dead guy brought back to life to perform tasks for a wizard, iirc. Abomination - more of a strategy than rpg, but the character skills are very rpg-like. in the fashion of xcom. decent, not fantastic. Silent Storm - Ok it has its flaws and the RPG element is small, but you gotta love the physics model that lets you shoot through, smash, or blow up just about EVERYTHING. Nightstone - bit predictable but a stand-up crpg. Cheers!
