Infinite Playability

So the new default setting for GURPS is Infinite Worlds. My opinion on the matter is that this has always been GURPS's default setting. Though to be fair with the new edition some effort if being made to do the integration of the worlds for you.

I'm not sure how much I will use the setting outside of Conventions. For me that's where this type of hook truly shines. I don't have to worry about what I write or what players show up for the game. I'm almost assured of having something everyone can enjoy.

I'm hopefully that the integration in upcoming books is nothing more than a section in the back or perhaps side notes detailing how the material described on the page would fit into the Infinite World setting.

It's been years since I've played GURPS but I sure liked it when I did. Is this infinite worlds setting you're talking about have to do with tying all the different available settings together and making to possible to seamlessy play in one setting and then say in the next session play in another one with the same characters?

Yes, almost exactly what it does. Dai Blackthorne reappears in 4th as a member of ISWAT the folks who jump from world to world trying to stop "the bad guys". There's also someone from a wierd science alternate earth, a vampire, an elf, a professor who knows some magic, etc.

Very literally one day you can be playing your character in a fantasy setting and the next step into the far future.

Good, that's what I felt was lacking from the system back when I played it. My warped mind was want to play a character in a magic based world and then head off into space

Hmmm Sounds like the League of Extraordinary Gentlepeople

I've always disliked the Alternate Worlds setting, it always felt very contrived, though some of the settings are very well written in Alternate Worlds1
But that could be because I always do my own settings anyway
