Top 5 reasons against D&D 3e/3.5

  1. If a Roleplaying game core book says, you should ignore rules if you want to roleplay, you might ask: Why I have bought them in first place?
  2. The goal for the system was to have an 1st edition feel, but you already have 1st edition for that.
  3. If you want CRPG like experience, why do you buy any books?
  4. You should wait for 3.51 (like with Windows NT)
  5. There is no "D&D update" page on the web to patch its numerous bugs.

  5. so the wizards make money??? btw the main field of operation of the wizards is USA and i guess the targeted group buys more books if u say it is more fun as a PC-game more flexible etc...

Re: Top 5 reasons against D&D 3e/3.5

zergnase: The 1st is very different, from saying, that if you want to roleplay your character you should ignore most of the rules. Your version says, if you don't like the rules you are free to modify it. The secound says: If you want to use the book for its purpose you have to modify it.

The 2nd: They wanted to have 1st edition feeling, I think even with its flaws, the 1st edition has the most accurate 1st edition feel.

The 3rd: If you want better you expect a better game, if a book tries to emulate CRPG experience, but fails at it, and forgets some traditional strenghts of pen and paper for this purpose... Why don't you play the CRPG games instead?

The 4th: You didn't get the joke :P

For the 5th: I doubt if it is equivalent of Windows Update :P

That kind of line should be in ANY RPG, serious or not one, it is one of the basics each player should keep in mind : that is only a game and if a rule si'nt good from your point of vew, why shouldn't you remove / alter it ?

Re: Top 5 reasons against D&D 3e/3.5

Yeah well, if you roleplay strictly to the rules and don't enjoy it, it's more of a waste of money than if you buy a rulebook, get some ideas and ignore some others, and have a great time playing the game.

Cheers!

Re: Top 5 reasons against D&D 3e/3.5

I guess that one thing to be pointed in is not WHY u bougth 3rd edition manuals, but ehy u bougth all the other after u saw what Wizards did to AD&D.......
I have to consider myself lucky enough if I have changed my mind after I bought the uselessness made sourcebook (The EPIC Level Handbook - where Fighter PC could rise up more HP that a Ice Mountain )!

I am seriously considering the consequences on new players, what they will learn about RPG ?

And, finally, personally I am starting to think that WOTC considers RPGer's stupid, since the last Sourcebook from the COMPLETE SERIE to Racial ones (LIKE FROSTBORN and LIBRIS MORITS) were simply reprint of previous Prestige Classes collection
