What do you think about Planewalking?

I think planewalking and spelljamming is an old element of D&D multiverse, but with d20 system, you have many very different worlds, how do you handle planewalking and spelljamming?

Re: What do you think about Planewalking?

why should i stop my PCs from planewalking ?

fine, it might ruin my plans, the idea of the campaign...

... but hey... RPGing is about want the PCs do not want the plan of the DM is, if the PCs want to leave the ppl who need help behind em... then they are not celebrated living/dead heroes (or n00bs stomped by the bad guys

some planes are traps getting in is often easy (ravenloft just one planeshift away getting out... no no

Re: What do you think about Planewalking?

Reasons against allowing it: because your setting doesn't allow it. Like in Ravenloft, Dark Sun, ...

Re: What do you think about Planewalking?

I understand planewalking mosty fits fantasy settings, but would it be interesting to try and add something like this to a sci-fi setting?

Re: What do you think about Planewalking?

Well, as far as I can recall, I used the planewalking (spelljamming was not popular among my old players so, after a couple of tests, I decided to avid them) very rarely and almost in order to recover very important artifact/NCP/Piece of Information from unearthly sources.
The maximum number of adventures I have planned to be run on an outer plane were 3-4 (always that my PC party should survive them) and I have always looked badly to PW campaign (altough I still consider Planescape one of the best ever published settings).
Now, with the D20 rule system, I guess PW is the final destination of almost all the high level PC which would hardly find someone (or something) challenging for them in a standard Campaign

Planeswalking... Discourage it if it's not your plans, but, allow it if the PC's insist, it is, after, the PC's choice.

Re: What do you think about Planewalking?

as a player i love it. and same with being a GM, but as said before if i spent hours planning it out i might give them a nudge back in that direction. but as Nec said.. it's the players choice.

I like planewalking, it allow multiples kinds of games by changing some usual fact... how top lay when ground is everchanging, when each of your action give something unexpected....
