Here is a cautionary tale for all Wargamers.

Well there I was browsing the Internet in my boredom looking at various wargaming related websites and before I realised it there was the Games Workshop website tempting me with there latest booty.

As always I was drawn to the LOTR section of the website and starting looking for there latest products. I was instantly drawn to the Minas Tirith Battle Host, which had a very good collection of figures for only £50! A bargain I thought, there was a lot of minis in there which I had been looking for and with the addition of the Gondor in Flames book it meant I could field some armies from some of the lesser Fiefdoms of Middle Earth. Anyway before I knew it my credit card was out and I was filling in the details on the website to place an order. Order finished and there I was feeling good and looking forward to the forthcoming delivery of new minis.

I went and made a cup of tea and came back to the computer still bored and starting looking round the room, then it dawned on me ..... What have I done! Ive only gone and ordered more minis when I already have about 700 unpainted ones lined up on my shelf waiting to painted or assembled. It was too late I had been lured into buying more figures which would probably never get finished or painted and just get lined up on my shelf with all the others. The addiction that is GW had got me again, I thought I had managed to give up on them but no I was not strong enough. I had given up smoking and resisted the urge to smoke for 7 years but less than a year after I had said I would never buy another GW figure I had given in and I felt bad, dirty, mad at myself.

GW products really should carry a health warning saying that they are addictive and bad for your pocket

Some RPG people (like me) doesn't like painting miniatures, but yet, there is a good practice to get good miniatures about our characters. Team up with a wargamer who loves to spend a lot of time with painting, customizing, etc. minis.

You need 1 miniature for your character.
But you have to buy a pack of minis.
    Lots of paint.
    Some tools.

Or forget about most of the tools, buy your pack of minis, the paint, etc. Decide which ones you need. Give the minis you bought, etc. to the wargamer friend, and make an agreement: you get your character painted, customized and ready, he keeps the rest of paint, rest of minis, etc. you bought.

Both sides are happy, but the poor wargamer might end up with stuff he doesn't realy need.

That may work if I had any wargaming friends that painted there miniatures. I guess it may be a sign of the times that with the pace of modern living painting minis is the last thing that they think of doing. Playing with unpainted minis is something that I dont like but the local gaming clubs I have been to in recent years dont mind unpainted minis so the rank and file dont get painted just the main characters in there army. I keep saying to myself I will paint them when I retire but I'm sure my eyesight will be too bad or my hands will just not stop shaking.

Oh well a job for a rainy day or maybe a year
