    Hunter the Vigil

So, those new systems from HtV are really cool... specially the Tatics and those Status merits for compacts/conspiracies that confer other merits, like Status 3 also gives you recources 2 related to help in the hunt. The practical experience system also sees justice to the things far from human frame of experience that Hunters see and do.

But there's something undeniably about it, maybe good, maybe not. The Hunters are much more powerfull than normal. They grow absurdly fast because of the Practical Experience. You get lots of skills, merits and tatics. Oh, the tatics. If you have a cell of 4-5 hunters with the Staking tactic, holly shit. Cry little sister. Lot's of very powerful tactics on that book, and very interesting uses for them.

It's good because the creatures of darkness have really a good reason to stay in the dark. If it's a vampire, werewolf, or anything weird chronicle, really don't get prothographed or filmed and posted online. If you do, you're in hell. It gives a hunter troupe a chance to get out alive of an encounter with the monsters.

On the other side, some players may not like the grit from the hunters proposed in HtV. Specially if they belong to a compact, when they have powers. But I think it's more for the good than anything else. The conspiracies powers are interestingly "weird", after all. Transplanted supernatural organs. Infernal linages fighting darkness with darkness (Supernatural tv show?). The Inquisition with it's rituals, classic.

    Transplanted supernatural organs.
Ok, this sounds so cool, I'm drooling all over the place.

I read some of the old WoD and my impression was that the Hunters were there to mop the floor with them most of the time.It seems they are giving out candy to everyone this time around.Though I enjoyed the irreverent imbalance of the old WoD.

    Fighter:
"i get his liver, i want not to be anylonger the first who falls asleep in the drinking games..."

    citizen: O_O

    Hahahahahah.

A demon wakes up in a hospital and sees a scar on his side:

    "OMG, where's my kittney????"

It doesn't bode well for the undead infested villages, though.

"We are under attack by the necronomicon forces!!!"

"Sorry, we don't do the Undead, they have no organs to loot."

Consequently, I just remembered reading about a particularly badass hunter in oWoD who drank vampire blood in order to wage a war on the bloodsuckers and got hooked on it.I wonder are there some iconic characters like that described in Vigil?

    Re: Hunter the Vigil

    I'm resurrecting this thread.

I think the strength of Hunter: The Vigil is its variability. It includes concepts like the Winchesters from Supernatural (badass normals working alone, though with contacts), X-Files (badass normals working through federal oversight), all the way to Buffy (supernatural mortal fighting evil, even if this Buffy is the daughter of the devil) and Men in Black (government agents with odd, quirky super-tech).

You pick your level, and play. I really like it. It's true that Hunters progress quickly with practical experience. But they _earn_ it. Even their highest tier isn't on the power level of Mages, Vampires, Werewolves and so forth. They're basically the Batman to the others' Super Powers. I like that.

As a note, I highly recommend picking up the Summoners. Just for the Greys. Yes, there's a Grey officially in the nWoD now. They're spirits that grew up due to popular legend, but they're damn cool for a weird Hunters/X-Files type game.
Favorite Games: D&D4E, Fate3, GURPS 4E, nWOD, oWoD

I love discussing house rules for just about any system. Feel free to make suggestions or strike up a conversation!
